…you’re old when the movies being shown on TCM are movies that were made in your lifetime – you actually know them and have seen them (I’ve seen Bad Boys and City of Angels on the line-up)
…your day can only get better after starting it by cleaning up after the naughty doglets decided to ‘unpack’ a rubbish bag all over the garden
…you’re weird when you get I-won-the-lottery kinda excited because you were finally able to schedule a meeting between the venue, the caterers and the bride (the diary next week is almost fully booked and it’s taken many attempts to secure this meeting)
…you’re up-to-date with work when you’re looking for work to do to keep yourself busy
…your office is quiet when the lack of phone calls is directly proportional to the lack of emails
…it’s time to go make another cuppa tea when you’ve been staring at a draft post for so long that your fingers (poised at the keyboard for when inspiration strikes) are frozen and too cold to move
Is there anything I should know?

Tanya tagged me in her recent blog about what my bedside table looks like.
As you can see I like my bedside table to be free of clutter. The only things on my bedside table are:
1. A lamp
2. My iPhone charging dock
3. My asthma spray (sometimes I suffer from asthma attacks during the night)
4. A pic of my sister and I on her wedding day (she and I are very close and this pic/frame was a gift from her)
5. A bottle of hand cream (which I liberally apply before I go to sleep)
What’s on your bedside table?

I have this theory… Now some of you will completely agree with me, and some of you will think I’m completely nuts! Yes I am a bit fried in the brain, but people love that weirdness about me. And for the record, I know I’m right about this.
My theory is this: all guys have a gene that renders them helpless in closing a door. I call it the “born in a barn” gene.
I have investigated and studied this phenomenon for quite some time now and have decided to list my main findings:
1. At the office
It’s winter at the moment so I am trying to keep all the doors and windows closed in hope of keeping whatever heat there is inside. Every morning I ask the two guys I work with to keep the front and back door closed. And every day I end up having to close the doors myself a few times because they’ve been left open. (We have the same problem with them not turning off lights in rooms they’re not even in.)
2. At home
I love my fiancé dearly but I don’t understand how his brain works sometimes. When there is no-one in the house but us, he will close the bedroom door when he gets dressed. (When we’re alone I usually prance around the house in a semi naked to naked state so I’m not perturbed by the open door situation.) But lo and behold when there is someone staying with us or the maid is there… I will be dressing and I’ll look up and the bedroom door is wide open. I obviously closed it when I started changing, but darling fiancé came in, then left and then left the door open. On the plus side, he is really good at closing the front door and ensuring it’s locked.
I’m even willing to bet that if you went back in time you’d hear Mary shouting at Joseph to close the stable door…
So am I crazy or has my theory got some valid proof?

Hello, my name is Jessica, and I have OCD. No, scrap that…I have major OCD! I am OCD to the point that perhaps I should be put in a straight jacket… Okay, maybe I’m not that bad!
I obviously spend the majority of my time at home and at the office, so my OCD is at it’s craziest there:
At work…
1) I have a specific filing system on my PC which I think is very necessary, very easy to put in place and easy to maintain. I pride myself on the fact that should I be out of the office (at an event or off sick), anyone can get onto my PC and find what they’re looking for. Okay…so maybe I have gone a bit overboard by creating folders in my emails, but this helps me a lot! Not only do I know that the emails sitting in the inbox are the ones I have not processed (etc), I am able to find emails pertaining to X company’s event that happened in X year by looking in that folder.
2) I have a very specific way of keeping my desk which is also very important. Yes it can get a bit crazy and messy when I’m working on two exhibitions/events at once, but anyone will be able to find what they’re looking for because it’s clearly marked. Each function has it’s own folder (with it’s name on the cover) where all information is stored pertaining to that event. Should this folder get too full, I’ll transfer it to a lever arch file where I’ll hand-make file dividers. (Hand-making file dividers is not as time intensive as you might think. Plus it saves the company money – go me!) These folders/files go with me to each event so it’s important that they’re kept in order.
I have always thought that my pedantic-ness is the perfect trait for the line of work I’m in – events management. You have to be super organised and super efficient to make any event run smoothly. (Here’s me doing a sterling job of explaining my OCDness!)
At home…
You may laugh at this and think I’m completely bonkers, but I have a certain way of doing everything at home, though I won’t make you go crazy by specifying every little thing. (I’m crazy enough for the both of us!)
My maid comes once a week and I like to make sure that all the laundry has been done so she just needs to iron it. Firstly because I like to make sure that the laundry is properly dried. She often washes the towels and packs them away while they’re still damp. And once anything has that damp and musky smell, it’s super difficult to remove it. Secondly I don’t like my maid using the washing machine. The washing powder gets everywhere but the drawer it’s supposed to be in, and if she does mess, she doesn’t clean it. There are a ton of other rants I have about how she doesn’t do things properly (like not putting the duvet the right way round into the cover, even though I’ve shown her…) but I suppose I can’t expect her to clean and do things like I would – like the crazy freak that I am. The only thing I can do is point out the things that she needs to do differently.
So, yes I’m crazy! Who doesn’t have a bit of craziness in them?! And yes I have super high standards! But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing… Here’s to hoping I’m not admitted to a crazy hospital one day!
