…my nephew made his grand entrance! He seemed to wait long enough for my mom to arrive and for us all to have dinner before saying “Hey! Just remember that I’m here too!”

I had left work early as my mom was set to touch-down at 4pm from Abu Dhabi. She eventually hobbled out into the arrivals hall (she’s broken her foot) and we bundled her into the car while Gary heaved her bags into the boot (yes, they were that heavy). We got onto the highway and drove straight to my sister’s house as my mom was going to be staying there. Once we’d arrived, my mom unpacked and got settled and then we waited for the rest of the family to arrive for a “welcome home” night of pizzas for my mom.

By 7pm my brother and his wife, and my uncle and his girlfriend had arrived. Gary and I had already placed the order for pizzas so once everyone was there we headed off to collect them. By 8:10pm we had eaten as much as we could and were now lazing on the couch with full tummies just chatting. And then…at 8:20pm…my sister announced to the room that her waters had just broken!

Most of us went into panic mode! My sister’s husband grabbed her hospital bags while my sister grabbed the last few things that needed to be packed. And then they were ready to leave. And then they were saying their goodbyes to my niece. And then they were gone and I was left with my niece in tears because her mommy had gone!

An hour later we got an sms to say that the little guy had entered safely into the world, followed by a piccie! Little Enzo was here and I couldn’t wait to meet him!

Friday took too long to finish up! It seemed to drag its heels because I was waiting to go visit my newest family member. But finally it was time! And I was so excited to hold him in my arms and smell his “new baby” smell and see his tiny hands and fingers…

Isn’t his little hand just too gorgeous!!

My boss, my hairdresser and my dad…

…sounds like the start of a joke, hey?! Well they are all separate elements that created serious stress for me and they all happened in the past two days…

My boss
I have been at my current job for the past 16 months. And my time there has involved some good, some bad, some frustrating and some why-am-I-not-grey-yet moments. Anyway…things got quite heated on Thursday, so much so that I handed in my letter of resignation on Friday which the boss didn’t accept. I don’t think I can/want to say more about this at the moment but let’s say that things will need to change if I am to stay…

My hairdresser
If you follow me on twitter you will have known that I had a very crappy experience with my previous hair salon. I had gone there in July-ish to retouch my highlights and get a trim but on arrival I was told my hairdresser had quit and that another lady would “fit me in”. Not only was my hair butchered (badly cut and highlights not done properly), the lady messed hair product on my white jersey. So I was in search of a someone new… And then my sister told me about this lady at a salon in Dunkeld that was looking for new clients and had vouchers for complimentary treatments. I jumped at the chance to try someone new (and a referral) and to use a voucher towards it. Let me just say that I have found my new hairdresser! The highlights were perfectly done and she fit as many as possible to ensure I was happy. I was then led through to the wash basin area where my jaw dropped as I entered… Instead of the normal chair positioned in front of the specially shaped basin, I spotted a few curved beds with the specially shaped basin where a pillow would be. And next to the bed was a stool where a therapist was waiting to give me my complimentary hand (or foot) massage. And the thought came to mind of why would anyone need to go to a spa when their hair salon relaxed them like this!! I’m definitely going back…

My dad
We arranged to see my dad this morning so we could chat through what has happened the past few months and where we are at the moment. My dad has been worried about Gary and I getting back together (and understandably so)…so this conversation had been a long time coming. Not only to put to bed what happened all those months ago, but also to tell him where we are now and where we see ourselves in the future. It was a nerve-wracking drive to the restaurant but the chat went well and I think we’re on the way to patching things up…

So how stressful was the past two days for you?!

10 things I learnt this week

1. Just when you think you know what’s what, everything changes again.
2. May to August will not be classified as “our quiet time” at work this year.
3. I must be taking the wrong kind of multi-vits as I haven’t noticed a change.
4. I absolutely love my new cleaner! I even let her use the washing machine.
5. The week goes by so quickly that just as I start to get into the swing of things, it’s Friday.
6. It’s okay not to be okay all the time.
7. And trying to keep a smile on my face and pretend I’m okay doesn’t work for ever.
8. As much as I love my family keeping in touch and checking up on me, I kinda hope they’ll slow down soon.
9. I can only do so much in one day.
10. I need to stock up on magazines and crossword puzzles for those nights when nothing else will do.

Auntie Who?

Auntie Jess of course! Twice again in fact!

My brother and his wife are expecting their first baby, a little boy already named Andrew Noah. He’s due towards the end of this month/beginning of March. Now I’m not sure when I’ll get to meet him since they emigrated to the UK in September last year, and that makes me quite sad. Also quite saddening is that they probably won’t be able to attend my wedding because they’ll have a newborn and thus won’t be able to travel. On to happier times, my sister, my other brother and I are putting together a “care package” which will include all the gifts we would have given at the baby shower. Hopefully I get a chance to go shopping soon so I can include my gift in the package.

Then my step-sister and her hubby are expecting their second baby, a little girl already named Paige Madison. She’s also due towards the end of this month/beginning of March. As it is their second baby, they organised a baby shower themselves, and also since it’s baby number two, everyone was invited for a joint shower – husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. The baby shower was held a few weekends ago and I was really impressed with the gift I found – a Hello Kitty blanket (the theme of the shower), and two outfits (one for 3-6 months, and one for 6-12 months). It was a very chilled shower held at a park near Northgate with a small play area for the bigger kidlets (seesaw, slide, merry-go-round, swings, jungle gyms, etc). What made it so chilled was that the park wasn’t busy – especially considering it was a Sunday afternoon. I’m looking forward to meeting this little one soon.

I promise to post pics as soon as I have them…

Honoured

On Friday 26 March this year I became Auntie to little Isabella. She came into the world at 00:03 (*earlier than expected) weighing 3.26kg, with a head circumference of 33cm and a body length of 46cm. As part of my baby shower gift to my sister, I organised a voucher from Jeanette for a newborn shoot. The pic below was taken at the shoot and you can go here to see the rest.

Now the reason for this post, besides being a super proud Auntie, is because my sister has asked me to be Bella’s godmother. What an absolute honour! And what an important role to play! The christening is taking place in December and I’m really looking forward to it. Looking forward to being a role model and guide for this precious little girl. It’s going to be a challenge at times, I’m sure, but I’ll be ready… Any sage advice for the meantime?

* My sister had a c-section scheduled for that Friday morning at 8:00 but little Isabella just couldn’t wait. My sister went into labour late Thursday night and after a very quick and easy labour, she gave birth. My sister and I joke that the reason why Isabella arrived earlier is because I prodded my sister’s belly one too many times. You see I used to push and prod the belly just so I could feel little Bella move.
