Hazelnut Meringue

I shared this dessert with Eliza last night at Espresso Cafe & Bistro in Parkhurst. We had decided to get together to catch up on what’s been happening since we last saw each other.

It is listed as “Hazelnut Meringue” on their dessert menu entitled “Revenge is Sweet”, and is priced at *R39.00 per portion. It is described as whipped cream sandwiched between 2 meringues drizzled with Frangelico and hazelnut syrup and sprinkled with mixed nuts.

My Thoughts
This dessert is the perfect size to share with someone, or if you’re really hungry, to eat alone. The meringue’s sweetness was perfectly combined with the plain tasting cream. The hazelnut syrup, Frangelico, and mixed nuts really gave the dessert a great taste that left me wanting more.

Meringa

I shared this dessert with Serena on Thursday night at Col’Cacchio Pizzeria in Benmore along with this dessert. She is out from Iraq at the moment and it was our chance to catch up with what has happened over the past few months.

It is listed as “Meringa” on their dessert menu and is priced at *R35.00 per portion. It is described as a delectable jumble of crushed meringue, fresh berries, cream and berry coulis.

My Thoughts
I really am in love with the berry-meringue-cream combo at the moment. And this one was just as yummy and delectable as all the others I have tasted. The cream was infused with berry coulis, small pieces of strawberries and pieces of meringue. It was the perfect mix of sweet but not too sweet. And a lot easier to eat than the others I have tried. The only disappointing thing was that there wasn’t a lot of meringue included in the cream mixture.

Berry Meringue

I had this dessert at So Yum Restaurant at Hyde Park last night with a friend of mine who was up from Cape Town.

It is listed as “Berry Meringue” on their dessert menu and is priced at *R38.00 per portion. It is a sticky meringue topped with berry infused cream and finished off with a tart berry compote.

My Thoughts
When I chose this dessert off the menu, I was assuming it would be on the small side, but boy was I wrong! It arrived and the meringue itself was about the size of a small side plate. And the berry infused cream was piled on top of it making it quite indulgent. The very sweet meringue was complimented by the not-so-sweet cream. But after gorging myself on dinner, there wasn’t that much space for such a big dessert. But having an unrivalled sweet tooth, I finished every last crumb and then had a Food-Baby to contend with. I will definitely have this again, though I’ll have to have a small main meal to leave more space!

Berry Meringue

I had this yummy dessert at Kong Roast at The Buzz Shopping Centre in Fourways on Friday night when I went to dinner arranged by RubyLetters.

It is listed as “Berry Meringue” on their dessert menu and is priced at *R38.00 per portion. It is meringue topped with a berry infused cream and finished off with a tart berry compote.

My Thoughts

The sweet meringue was wonderfully complimented by the unsweetened cream and the berry compote. The creamy meeting the sweet made it perfect to indulge in – not too rich, not too sweet, just the perfect middle ground so no guilty feelings. I did think that the cream could do with a bit more berry infusing as it tasted like plain whipped cream to me. (That could just be because my tastebuds were over indulged in the piece of meringue I ate first.)
